Distribution of CPP Maize Seed and Fertilizer

“7-8 January 2019, the Mae Fah Luang Foundation attended a meeting to listen to farmers problems with leader of the Pa-O group Khun San Lwin who is currently Khun Ye Htwe and government officials in the Naung Tayar area To find a way to increase income for farmers CP has decided to take responsibility for the integrated maize planting project as another way ”

The project distributes maize seeds to farmers in the project area in collaboration with CPP company to grow quality maize to transfer technical knowledge on agriculture and to cultivate in a timely manner. In addition, the project takes soil samples from each village and to conduct laboratory tests annually to find out soil condition, compatibility with seeds and yield conditions before distributing seeds to the villages.

Additionally, the project established maize seed funds in the villages that take loans from CPP maize seeds program. Maize fund committee members and farmers consented the fund to be set at “2,000 Kyat to 5,000 Kyat. The purpose of the fund raising is to enable farmers to engage in agricultural activities in their own villages with the cooperation of the village community. The summary of the fund and the list of farmers distributed from 2019 to 2026 are listed as table.

The project and the CPP company set up demonstration plots every year for farmers to learn systematic farming techniques from the preparation of land to harvest. And the agricultural experts of CPP company also provide practical training to farmers such as preparing soil, planting seeds, usage of fertilizers, controlling weeds, measuring plant growth and spraying pesticides in the demonstration plots. The summary of the demonstration is in the table.

The project provided maize huller machines by prioritizing villages that do not have any maize huller machines with the aim of saving time during harvesting and to obtain quality maize when selling them. The project also organized maize committee and set up maize huller machine funds in the villages provided with huller machines. The funds are set up discussions with maize committee members and farmers for the fees for using the maize huller machine. Also, maize committee members and farmers decided that the machine operators have to pay for all the costs incurred by the machines. The quantity of the maize huller machines provided by the project and funds are included in the table.

The CPP company opened maize purchasing center and purchased directly from the farmers who took loans and grow CP 808 and 112. The CPP informed the villages about the place, period and moisture rate to purchase maize, and when to sell their crop. As the representative of CPP purchasing center was designated for purchasing maize from farmers at the convenience of the farmers. The summary of maize amount and price that were purchased from 2019 to 2026 are in table.

In 2023-2026, In cooperation with the project and CPP Company, event were also held on how to prevent waste from being burned after crop harvest in order to prevent air pollution and damage to the soil with farmers in project area.
