To increase the income from the sale of dry tea the tea grown by the farmers in the project villages need to be changed from the traditional method to modern techniques. Tea expert from Pin Laung Township, U Sai Kaung Kham was contracted to show and train new modern techniques. The villagers-built tea processing in the villages to improve the quality.
In 2019 and 2020, the project built large tea processing facilities for each village to allow tea farmers to use it together. However, it did not work practically so, we have been providing support since 2021 in the form of a small individual tea processing facility “Private Tea House” to a selected few instead of a large tea house.
The project, in collaboration with Pin Laung Tea Expert U Sai Kaung Kham, conducted village-level tea processing techniques training sessions in each village in order to increase tea farmers’ incomes, obtain high-quality tea, save time in roasting and use the provided teahouse. The following is the list of farmers who have been trained in modern tea processing techniques from 2019 to 2022.
In the villages, volunteers conducted household-survey once a year to compare the use of project-supported tea processing facility and the increase in farmers’ incomes. A summary of annual housing census conducted from 2019 to 2021 is a table.
The dry tea from the project assisted villages are sold in Pinlaung Township. U Sai Kaung Kham also buys high quality dry tea to support the farmers. As a start, here is a summary of dived tea that were bought in the last tea season.
